Eric Thorp ’01 has been an employee of his alma mater for a decade now. Christ School’s Athletic Director and Head Golf Coach also sits on the Judiciary Council as a faculty advisor and assists as an eighth grade advisor and Houseparent in Gardner House.
Mr. Thorp earned a B.S. degree from Elon University. Following graduation, he worked at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort at Osprey Point Golf Club in South Carolina. Mr. Thorp enjoys playing golf and is a diehard Cincinnati Bengals fan. Mr. Thorp and his wife Megan live on the Christ School campus with their bloodhound dog, Birdie.

English teacher Greg Townsend has come full circle with the second half of his educational career. Mr. Townsend retired from Asheville City Schools in June 2015. He spent 31 years at Asheville High School as a teacher, Assistant Principal, and finally Principal of Asheville’s SILSA program (School of Inquiry and Life Sciences) from 2005 to 2015. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Townsend coached soccer and baseball.
Mr. Townsend came to Christ School as a teacher in 2016. This is not his first exposure to schools affiliated with the Episcopal church – he graduated high school from St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Bradenton, FL, before going on to receive a B.A. in English from Sewanee: the University of the South. Mr. Townsend also holds a M.A.T. in English from the University of North Carolina and an Ed.S in Educational Leadership from Western Carolina University.
Mr. Townsend’s wife, Shannon, teaches Spanish at Ira B. Jones Elementary in Asheville. The couple have two sons, Robert and William.
Ken Tyburski graduated from Georgia Tech in 1999 with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering – Cooperative Plan (a designation for undergraduates who worked three semesters in a professional organization while attending school). Mr. Tyburski has worked in single-gender education as an upper-level Math teacher since 2006. At Christ School, Mr. Tyburski teaches Algebra II and Geometry and serves as a house parent in Harris House.
In the afternoons, our Disc Golf team will benefit from Mr. Tyburksi's leadership. An avid disc golfer himself, Mr. Tyburski turned pro in August 2014, and has since won 24 competitions in the professional Masters (age 40+) league. When he’s not busy directing tournaments, teaching clinics, and volunteering at local events, Mr. Tyburski hopes to take advantage of the ample hiking and camping opportunities around Asheville.

James Uhler, a two-time Christ School Teacher of the Year (2004 and 2017), believes so much in the school’s mission that he is willing to put his words into action. Most recently, Mr. Uhler showed a handful of students firsthand the dignity of hard work on a summer crew that helped maintain the campus.
When classes commence, he’ll throw on a shirt and tie to serve as Eighth Grade Coordinator, History Instructor, and Houseparent in Young House. Mr. Uhler, who has been at Christ School since 2002, won the P.H. Broyhill Teacher Award in 2013. He was twice selected to the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers list in 1998 and 2005. Mr. Uhler has served as a Consultant and Reader for the College Board for the AP U.S. History Exam in the past, chaired the History Department, and been a Greenies baseball and swimming coach.
Mr. Uhler earned a B.A. in History from Xavier University as a University Scholar in 1996. He went on to receive a M.A. in History from Ohio University five years later. Mr. Uhler and his wife, Becky, have two children, Stella and Colin.
Ross Weathersbee ’10 is not that far removed from his own experience as a Christ School student. That's what makes his work as Digital Media Specialist and Director of the Christ School Broadcast Network so rewarding.
CSBN is a student-driven media operation, and not only provides live web-streaming of Greenie athletic events, but special school functions and profile pieces on Christ School students, faculty, and programs. CSBN recently completed its first documentary, a 33-minute piece on the Christ School lacrosse team’s 2017 state-championship season entitled “Leave No Doubt.” Now in his fourth year, Mr. Weathersbee says, “I enjoy teaching students the fundamentals of live filmmaking and sports broadcasting.”
Mr. Weathersbee earned a B.A. in Electronic Media from High Point University in 2014. Mr. Weathersbee learned to sing as a Christ School student from Patrick McMurry. At High Point, he performed in the auditioned co-ed ensemble, Chamber Singers, and the school’s all-male a cappella group, the Toccatatones. Mr. Weathersbee continues to sing locally with multiple groups.

Donna Wheeler has been at Christ School for a dozen years now, and is rarely seen around campus without a camera in her hands. Mrs. Wheeler serves as Director of Publications, meaning she is advisor for the Angelus yearbook, editor of the Galax magazine, the primary school photographer, and a digital photography teacher.
Overall, Mrs. Wheeler has worked in independent schools for more than 30 years. She began the Christ School portion of her career as chair of the English Department and Cross Country coach. Mrs. Wheeler earned a B.A. in English from Middlebury College in 1983 and an M.A. in English from Middlebury’s Bread Loaf School of English four years later.
Her hobbies include quilting, poetry, and jogging along Christ School’s trails with her dog, Birdie. Mrs. Wheeler occasionally performs in flash mob dances in and around the Asheville area.
Mrs. Wheeler is married to Tad Wheeler, who is part of Christ School’s grounds crew. Mrs. Wheeler has four sons, Chris, Josh, Carter, and Max ’21.

Paige Wheeler began working at Christ School in March 2014 as the Campaign Manager for the capital campaign. She became the Associate Director of Advancement in 2016, and now serves as the Interim Director of Advancement.
Mrs. Wheeler worked for 14 years at her alma mater, Brevard College, in fundraising and alumni affairs. She was the President of The Health Adventure in Asheville, NC, a children’s health and science museum, for seven years.
Paige is married to Frank Wheeler. They love traveling, attending concerts, and going to NC State Wolfpack football games. They have three grown children, Andy, Chris, and Morgan.
Antton Wilbanks has “lived in Costa Rica and Finland, traveled to Iceland, swam in the fjords of Tromso, dined outside of the king’s palace in Stockholm, ridden a sleigh pulled by reindeer in Lapland, and toured the Baltic nations – Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.” An enthusiastic traveler, Mr. Wilbanks joined the Christ School community accompanied by his husky mix, Baldr, named for the Norse god of “love, peace, and forgiveness."
After graduating from UNC-Wilmington in 2016 with a B.A. in Chemistry and a minor in educational studies, Mr. Wilbanks interned at Highland School (VA). At Christ School, Mr. Wilbanks teaches Chemistry and assists theater director Mary Dillon. When he’s not teaching or supporting our young actors, Mr. Wilbanks cooks, play beach volleyball, and keeps up with his mom and three sisters.

David Williams is celebrating his 41st year in education and sixth at Christ School. Mr. Williams is the Chair of the Science Department and teaches Biology and Biotechnology.
Mr. Williams earned a B.S. in Biology from George Washington University in 1975 and an M.A. in Secondary Education Administration from Furman University in 1981. His hobbies include fly-fishing, paddling, reading, and staying up on current events and the workings of government.
Mr. Williams and his wife, Margaret, have one son, Kevin.

Christ School’s Student Activities Director is busier than ever in his third year. Casey Zager serves as Assistant Cross Country Coach in the fall, Head Adventure Racing Coach in the winter, and JV Head Baseball Coach in the spring.
Mr. Zager graduated from Dallas Baptist University in 2012 with a Liberal Arts degree in Biblical Studies.
Mr. Zager’s interests outside of work are running, reading, fantasy football, and puzzles. He and his wife, Ashton, have a son, Louie.
