Championships are a great indicator of success. So is the fact that roughly one out of every five boys at Christ School plays lacrosse.

Expectations are high for the 2020 varsity season, but that is nothing new for the three-time defending NCISAA Division I champions, who have appeared in the state finals the past four years.

Casual observers may think that Christ School lacrosse wins every faceoff. Actually it’s not far from the truth with Sean Dow ’21 handling those duties for the Greenies.

Not many basketball teams would have been able to recover from an 0-7 start to the season. Much less go on to win a conference championship and reach the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.

Not many basketball teams in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association had two players the caliber of De’Ante Green ’22 and Justice Ajogbor ’20.

Christ School’s winter track program trekked to the University of Kentucky High School Invitational for the fourth consecutive year and returned home with a handful of personal records. 

Christ School basketball players waded into a jubilant student section Thursday night.

The Greenies wanted to say thanks for the support after the season's final home game, but they did plenty on their own to liven up Mebane Field House. The offense was patient and precise throughout a 75-50 victory over Charlotte Country Day in the second round of the NCISAA 4-A state playoffs.

Christ School swimming concluded the 2019-20 season Monday at the NCISAA Division I state meet in Greensboro, N.C. The Greenies placed 10th in the team standings with 89 points.

Christ School varsity basketball put three players on the All-Carolinas Athletic Association team, announced Monday. 

Maybe it was the abnormal start time or some other factor, but Christ School JV basketball was never completely in sync Friday. 

The Greenies were still dialed in enough to finish their season on a positive note with a 41-27 win at Asheville School.

Christ School swimming has qualified eight individuals and three relays for Monday’s N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I state meet in Greensboro.

Lloyd Burgess ’14 became the 14^th professional basketball player in Christ School history by signing this week with Albania’s BC Teuta Durrës.

Frank Howden ’22 repeated as a conference champion in the 100-yard breaststroke and set a Carolinas Athletic Association swim meet record in the process Wednesday.

Zack Myers ’23 could barely get to his feet at halftime Tuesday. The freshman guard had taken a hard fall on the final play of the second quarter and his status for the rest of the game was in doubt.

Zack not only returned but was one of the unsung heroes on a night where Christ School’s frontline muscled the varsity basketball team past visiting Asheville Christian Academy, 62-55.

Even at home, two games in less than 48 hours can be a juggling act. Varsity basketball avoided any kind of letdown Saturday in Mebane Field House.

Justice Ajogbor ’20 may be a gentle giant, beloved around Christ School for his polite and soft-spoken demeanor. The 6-foot-10 Harvard University recruit has another side to him though, one which attacks the rims in Mebane Field House with some very bad intentions.

Breaking full-court pressure is a thankless skill that every young basketball player should learn. Coach Drew Hyche ‘94 made sure his Little Greenies were knowledgeable after their first loss of the season.

Given its dominance of Carolinas Athletic Association basketball over the years, Christ School is used to getting every opponent’s very best effort. Wednesday was a prime example, with the varsity team having to pull together down the stretch to leave upset-minded Carolina Day with a 66-51 win.

Head coach Michael Amato was rendered pleasantly speechless after the first competition of the season for the Christ School Ski and Snowboard team.

Archery is more than a hobby or a pastime for the Park brothers.
