Navy Shuler ’20 set records at Christ School that may never be broken.

In his heart, the Greenie was always meant to play quarterback for the University of Tennessee even if it happened in a roundabout way. Navy announced Sunday that he is transferring from Appalachian State to Tennessee with all four years of his college eligibility remaining.

Navy’s numbers at Christ School speak to his ability. He completed 405 of 602 passes for 6,541 yards and 71 touchdowns with 19 interceptions, to go along with 7,591 all-purpose yards and 82 touchdowns overall. Navy’s passing yardage is the most by any quarterback from a western North Carolina high school.

The Shuler name is well-known in Knoxville to say the least. Navy will be the fifth member of his family to matriculate through the Tennessee program. His father, Heath P’20, was the 1993 SEC Player of the Year, a runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, and selected by Washington with the No. 3 overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft.

Heath has been a Christ School assistant coach in recent years. Navy’s cousin, West ’19, is another Greenie alumnus and a linebacker for the Volunteers.

Navy's announcement on Sunday came less than a week after one of his Greenie receivers, Kaedin Robinson '19, transferred from Central Florida to Appalachian State.
