Five student-athletes and teams from Christ School are among the finalists for this year’s Western North Carolina Sports Award Banquet presented by Ingles.

Josh Coley sat back and smiled Tuesday as his assistants and players assured the coach that they could run a portion of the Christ School Basketball Camp on their own.

Coach Coley has been smiling a lot lately.

Combine the sheer expanse of Christ School's 500-acre campus, the quality of facilities, as well as Asheville's drawing power, and summer camps have returned in a big way. 

Some might say the Asheville City Soccer Club’s arrival in 2016 was long overdue, given western North Carolina’s fascination with the beautiful game. This summer alone, the men’s and women’s teams have played to sold-out home crowds.

Where does Christ School fit into the mix? The school’s profile as a community partner to Asheville City has never been higher than it is in 2021.

Coming off the first state championship in the program’s history, the present and future is looking bright for Christ School football.

Freshman defensive backs/wide receivers Cayden Jones ’24 (Charlotte) and Zack Myers ’24 (Duke and Tennessee) picked up their first Division I college scholarship offers on Tuesday.

Pace is everything in distance running.

And the trajectory for Rocky Hansen ’23 and Dawson Reeves ‘24 has changed dramatically this summer, with both now on pace to be elite at the national level by the time their careers at Christ School are over.

Josh Coley brings to Christ School a proven track record as an effective leader and winning coach. The school is confident that Mr. Coley will maintain our tradition of success as the Greenies’ new Varsity Basketball Coach.

Sean Dow's legacy is secure as one of the top faceoff specialists in Christ School history.

The recent graduate merely added to that legacy May 16 by being named the Overall Most Valuable Player of the 16th annual N.C. Great 38 All-Star Lacrosse Game at Catawba College.

The Christ School Athletic Department is pleased to announce its Spring Sports Team Awards, as decided by the coaches.

No sports season suffered more from the COVID-19 pandemic than the spring, with entire seasons wiped out in 2020.

Christ School’s return to play over the past several months was full of successes, and some of the athletes behind those highlights have been named to the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association’s all-state teams.

Christ School football experienced a seismic breakthrough in 2020 with the program’s first-ever state title. The challenge of building on that success now lies with new Head Varsity Football Coach Chad Walker.  

Coach Walker was introduced to the school community Thursday, May 13, during Assembly in Pingree Auditorium on campus. 

Christ School and Charlotte Providence Day were clearly on another level than every other team Saturday at the NCISAA Division I Championship Track Meet.

The Chargers had a little too much firepower in the end.

From the outset Tuesday, it was obvious that Christ School lacrosse was not going to leave anything to chance in the NCISAA Division I state semifinals.

Emmett Paradine ’22 scored seven goals and the Greenies turned a 3-0 lead in the opening three minutes into a comfortable 16-6 win at Durham Academy. Sean Dow ’22 set the tone by winning 22 of the game’s 24 faceoffs and had an assist.

Three senior leaders for Christ School baseball have received all-conference honors on the All-Carolinas Athletic Association team.

Andrew Grande ’21 and Charlie Bell ’21 made up the middle infield for the Greenies at shortstop and second base, respectively. Mickey Meguiar ’21 alternated between the outfield and pitching.

Christ School outperformed expectations Monday at the NCISAA 4-A state golf tournament, placing fourth out of 12 teams at the Greensboro Country Club.

Christ School lacrosse never led Friday until it mattered most.

Sam Bassett ’22 shook his defender and blasted a shot past the Cannon School goalkeeper in sudden-death overtime to lift the Greenies to a tense 10-9 win in the quarterfinals of the NCISAA Division I state playoffs.

Xander Barber ‘23 has played two seasons of high school tennis for Christ School and now has a pair of Carolinas Athletic Association Player of the Year awards to show for it.

Whether it was the sprints, distance, or field events, Christ School track once again had too much balance and depth for the rest of the Carolinas Athletic Association on Wednesday.

Saturday offered Christ School varsity lacrosse one last chance to fine-tune things for the NCISAA Division I state playoffs. The Greenies did not flinch after a less than ideal start at Durham Academy.

Christ School track & field paid tribute to its seniors prior to Wednesday’s final home meet. Then the Greenies proceeded to do what they have done all season long – win and win big.

The team stacked up 187.5 points, more than three times as many as runner-up Asheville School (61.5).
