Xander Barber ’23 is ringing in the new year as a national champion.

The Christ School junior and his doubles partner, Stiles Brockett from Fairfax, Va., were seeded seventh for the U.S. Tennis Association National Winter Championships held Dec. 28-Jan. 3 in Orlando.

The team finished its run through the 16U draw Monday with some flair – an ace right down the middle of the court by Stiles capped a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kaveh Brian and Tyler Nguyen. In all, 64 doubles teams were part of the tournament played entirely on clay at the USTA National Campus.

Xander’s hometown is Asheville. He has been a two-time Carolinas Athletic Association Player of the Year in his high school career at Christ School with an overall 21-0 singles record.
