The Christ School Athletic Department is proud to announce its All-Academic Team for the 2023-24 Winter Sports season.

ASHEVILLE - John Barton ’25 swims year-round for a team called the Piranhas. 

He positively chewed up the competition Wednesday at the Carolinas Athletic Association Championship Meet. 

Christ School coach Dr. Brent Harris said that Thursday night’s four-team meet at Charlotte County Day was “a fantastic example of meet-by-meet improvement.”

The Greenies were at full strength for the first time in 2024, which resulted in significant personal records by a number of swimmers. Hardy Johnson ’24 (100 freestyle), Henry Wilhelm ‘25 (100 freestyle), and Thomas Cook ‘26 (100 butterfly) are just fractions of seconds away from state-qualifying times.

Saturday’s meet had a funny name and quirky prizes. Christ School swimming won it all the same with 16 personal records.

The Greenies (80 points) outscored three other teams in the Duck, Duck, Goose at the Buncombe County Schools Aquatic Center. 

Christ School swimming had a pair of individual event winners in Jake Landis ’25 (500-yard freestyle, 5:44.37) and John Barton ’25 (100-yard breaststroke, 1:06.83), with 17 Greenies achieving personal records Wednesday in a Carolinas Athletic Association meet at Asheville School.

RABUN GAP, Ga. – Christ School swimmers took first place in 10 events Friday, stacking up more than enough points to win the Rabun Gap (Ga.) Invitational over three other teams.

Events were swam in meters and not yards due to the size of the pool.

CHARLOTTE – Christ School swimmers dove into the deep end in terms of competition with Thursday’s start to the 2023-24 season.

Christ School swimming has its first meet of the 2023-24 season Thursday in Charlotte. 

Nearly 30 boys have been involved in preseason workouts for Christ School swimming, including last year's team MVP - John Barton '25. 

A new tradition served as the unofficial start to Christ School's 123rd Commencement Weekend on Thursday night.

Christ School swimming placed 10th in Monday’s NCISAA Division I state meet with the biggest points for the Greenies coming in the relays. 

Christ School swimming was the third-place boys team in Wednesday’s Carolinas Athletic Association Championship Meet held at Asheville School.

Christ School swimmers were back in the pool Thursday at UNC Asheville, racking up more personal bests and state-qualifying times during a triple dual meet with Asheville Christian Academy and Rabun Gap (Ga.).

The Greenies won half of the meet’s 12 events.

Capping off the night with a first-place swim in the 400-meter freestyle relay, Christ School won Friday’s five-team meet at Rabun Gap (Ga.).

Due to the length of the pool, events were scored at a short course distance in meters.

Long layoffs can be detrimental to any team.

Christ School swimmers clearly made the most of the two months since their last meet.

A total of 13 Greenies attained at least one personal record in Thursday afternoon’s Carolinas Athletic Association meet at Asheville School.

Christ School swimming had its second meet in 48 hours Wednesday at Asheville School. 

Christ School swimming began its 2022-23 season with a four-team meet Tuesday at Charlotte Latin.

Christ School basketball and swimming ended their seasons on a high note last month. 

While it took a team effort in both sports, the Athletic Department is pleased to announce its individual awards for Winter Sports. These winners were determined by the coaches and will have their names added to plaques hanging in the Beaver Student Center.

There was no shortage of smiles after the way the team performed at Monday's NCISAA Division I state meet.
