Points in the paint are a key statistic for every basketball team, especially so for the first at Christ School to be coached by Matt Cioce ’13.

Christ School senior Richard Lytle ’20 beat over half the field at Saturday’s 24^th annual Green Race, an event known in paddling circles as “the Super Bowl of Whitewater Kayaking.”

Richard ran the Class 5 rapids of the Green Narrows (situated about 20 miles from campus in Henderson and Polk counties) in 5 minutes, 6.50 seconds, good enough for 69^th place out of 145 boats. Richard is believed to be only the third Greenie – current students or alumni – to finish the Green Race.

Like it or not, destiny has a sense of humor sometimes.

The path to reach this point has taken some unforeseen twists and turns for Christ School football. However, the special things that always looked like they were meant for this talent-rich Greenie team have come to fruition all the same.

Christ School once again gets to test itself against the best football teams in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association as the No. 4 seed in the Division I state playoffs.

Historically speaking, Christ School football may still be playing catch-up when it comes to the oldest high school rivalry in the Carolinas. But also let it be said that the Greenies have turned the tide in a record way.

Most mornings, Andrew Hammel ’20 can be seen running around Wetmore Circle and other parts of campus as Christ School families are dropping off their sons.

Christ School JV football coach Duncan Barnes was beaming with pride Wednesday night, standing under the glow of Fayssoux Field’s scoreboard. His players had the same expression on their faces.

Asheville School Week began in earnest Monday morning at Christ School.

The boys wore as much green as possible on "Green Day" and inspected one another’s wardrobes for any hint of the forbidden color – blue. Before classes ever started, the Class of 2020 had deftly pulled off its first prank in Wetmore Hall. 

Many Greenies will agree that Asheville School Week is the most wonderful time of the year.  

What a difference a year makes.

There is no better place than home for Christ School cross country to add to what has already been a historic season.

The Greenies are not only the host, but the favorite to win Wednesday’s Carolinas Athletic Association boys meet. The boys race begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the girls.

Beating the same opponent four times in one season is not easy.

Christ School varsity soccer hopes the odds are finally stacked in its favor Tuesday when the Greenies (10-7-0) get another crack at Carolinas Athletic Association champion Rabun Gap (16-2-0). The Eagles host the first round NCISAA 4-A state playoff game at 4:30 p.m.

Local television station WMYA (40) rewarded the academics and citizenship of Max Field ’20 and Kiki Alcime ’20 during Friday’s broadcast of the varsity football game between Christ School and Charlotte Christian.

Senior Night carries with it a lot of emotion.

Multiply that exponentially for the Christ School varsity football team with Charlotte Christian coming to campus for a televised game.

The situation and the stakes are simple: One game, winner-take-all.

Varsity soccer earned the right to play for the Carolinas Athletic Association championship by placing second in the regular-season standings – Christ School (9-5-0, 3-3-0) travels to Rabun Gap (14-2-0, 6-0-0) for a 4:30 p.m. CAA title game on Thursday.

WakeMed Soccer Park is known for being a fast course. Andrew Hammel ’20 and Joseph Visconti '20 did nothing to shatter that belief Saturday.

If last week was the wake-up call for Christ School varsity football, then Friday was a chance to sound a few alarms, too

Henry Meulenberg ’23 looked both amused and honored when his Christ School JV football teammates yelled his last name in breaking down Thursday’s postgame talk.

Having already surpassed last year’s total for wins by two games, Christ School varsity soccer is now ready to hit the homestretch of its season.

Senior team captains Andrew Hammel ’20 and Joseph Visconti ’20 have been accepted into the prestigious Nike Race of Champions for Saturday’s Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C.

For Christ School, the road to a high seed and homefield advantage in the NCISAA football playoffs runs through Charlotte.
