The safety of our students, faculty, staff, and their families on campus are our top priority after the effects of Hurricane Helene. Campus remains without power and essentially no call or data reception. Scores of trees and power lines are down. Our Greenies are in good spirits. Stolz Hall is on a generator and is well-stocked. Teachers are enjoying games and activities with the boys, and they with each other.

First and foremost, we want to assure you that all boarding students and on-campus staff are safe following the devastating rain and wind from Hurricane Helene. 

The countdown is on for the 125th Celebration and Alumni Weekend. We are watching the weather and want to provide you with a few updates that will make your return as enjoyable as possible.

Christ School basketball’s first state-championship season broke the levee in 2005. 

Since then, there has been a steady flow of ACC recruits from the program – 10 to be exact after Mikey Wilkins ’25 committed to N.C. State University this weekend. 

Just in time for Alumni Weekend comes the story of Christ School’s origin: a love story. 

“My Dear Christ School Boys: Celebrating 125 Years of Christ School Through Love, Loss, and Letters” became a book idea to Grey Edens ’25 after reading the hand-written letters between the school’s co-founders – Father Thomas Wetmore and his wife, Susan. 

The book is available for purchase through Amazon and in the Christ School bookstore.

The National Honor Society for the Class of 2025 is almost too large to fit inside the frame after 12 more inductions Thursday. 

John Barton ’25 and Jacob Beatty ’25 will be right beside each other on graduation day due to the alphabetical order of their last names. 

The two seniors are both from Asheville and share a third thing in common as was announced Thursday – they are semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship.

Academic Rigor at its finest. 

Christ School offers more Advanced Placement courses than ever before (27) across a wide spectrum of academic disciplines. The possibility exists for the highest-achieving boys to earn college credit before graduation, all in accordance with the first school pillar of Academic Rigor.  

Noted author Elizabeth Kostova will be on campus Sept. 9 and 10 as part of the Cooper Living Arts Series. 

The first of her three novels, The Historian, holds the distinction as the first debut novel in U.S. publishing history to open at No. 1 on the New York Times Bestseller List, has been translated into 40 languages, and won Quill and Independent Bookseller Awards.

Since their return to campus this month, there has been a shared appreciation amongst the faculty for where the school stands today, not only persisting but thriving.

Christ School's faculty and staff hail from diverse backgrounds and many of our educators have gone on to distinguish themselves with postgraduate degrees in their chosen fields. The common thread amongst these men and women is that they know boys. 

These six new additions to the school community will enhance an already winning team for 2024-25.

Calling all Ripple Makers!

Please come and join us Sept. 27-29 for Alumni Weekend which will include a kickoff celebration for Christ School’s 125th anniversary, “The Game” with Asheville School, alumni awards, and an induction of Coach Mike Knighton P’87 into the Athletic Hall of Fame.  

Our second school pillar of Leadership is characterized by virtues such as courage, integrity, persistence, and selflessness. These same universal ideals that we ask of the boys are an expectation of the adults who feel a calling to serve in the development of their leadership.

Three of our favorite words, especially this time of year. As summer break concludes, Christ School’s faculty and staff look forward to the sense of renewal that comes with having the boys back on campus. We all share in the excitement of Christ School’s 125^th anniversary.

Judson Meyers ’25 led the graduation procession onto Yard A in May and hasn’t touched much dry land since then. 

The South Carolina House Prefect will miss the start of school for an admirable reason after his summer on the water. Judson has been chosen to represent the United States in the World Rowing Under 19 Championships scheduled for Aug. 18-25 in Ontario, Canada. 

Evan Reich ’26 received the best kind of e-mail Wednesday.

The rising junior from Greensboro learned that he has been shortlisted as a finalist for the John Locke Institute Global Essay Prize in the category of History.
