Christ School boys learn the intricacies of leadership from adults who excel in it, a relational exchange that furthers this community’s success.
Assistant Head of School Lisa Darling’s ability as a trusted mentor, unequivocally proven over a 46-year career in education, has earned her the 2026 Beverly H. Sgro Award. This honor, given annually by The Heads Network Board of Trustees, is an acknowledgement of Lisa’s work in supporting and advocating for the advancement of women in leadership within independent schools.
“Lisa is a treasure and a great blessing to our community. She’s a beloved and revered member of our community, mentoring and advising our leadership team, faculty, staff, and students,” said Head of School Sean K. Jenkins, Ph.D. P’29.
“She fist-pumps the boys at every sporting event, at music recitals, while on dorm duty, during the school day, and in the dining hall. The boys adore her. We all do. It’s hard to convey how much her friendship and mentorship means to all of us.”
Ms. Darling will receive the Sgro Award during The Heads Network's annual convention which is January 25-27 in Napa, Calif.
Lisa began her career as an educator in 1979 and has since brought her talents to schools in six different states – she first came to Christ School during the 2023-24 academic year, taking on the role of Interim Chief Financial Officer.
Ms. Darling has previously demonstrated stellar leadership as the head of school at three different institutions (Wilmington Friends School in Delaware, United World College, and the Awty International School in Houston. She was formerly on the board for the National Association of Independent Schools from 1996 to 2000 and is part of the board of trustees for two schools in Texas – Shlenker School and Dallas International School.
At least six of her former colleagues have moved into headship roles and they uniformly point to Lisa as the person who recognized their strengths and encouraged them to pursue the next step in their careers.
