Strong Second Half Carries Greenies to Blowout

Varsity huddle

Leading by only two points at halftime Saturday was surprising for Christ School varsity basketball. De’Ante Green ‘22 and the Greenies removed all the drama from their latest Carolinas Athletic Association game with a decidedly different second half.

De’Ante added several dunks to an ever-growing highlight reel, but also showed touch on his shot from other places to post a game-high 21 points. Justice Ajogbor ’20 scored eight of his 13 points in the second half and Charlie Browder ’21 added nine in a 62-39 win at Asheville School.

The score was 25-23 at the midway point in the favor of Christ School (5-8). Plagued by foul trouble and turnovers, the Greenies still never trailed the Blues (2-5). And whatever nervous moments may have been stirred up in the first 16 minutes were laid to rest in the third and fourth quarters.

In all, 10 of Christ School’s players scored in Saturday’s game. The rest of the points came from Zack Myers ’23 (five points), Adam Keever ’20 (three), Ray Faison ’20 (three), Drew Redmond ’21 (two), Ty Besses ’22 (two), Luke Stone ’21 (two), and Jack Knott ’20 (two).

The Greenies have won five of their last six games now, with the next one being Monday at home, a 6:30 p.m. tip-off against Rabun Gap (Ga.). All alumni, students, and friends of Christ School are invited to attend “Christmas in the Greenie Dome,” which has become a winter sports tradition.
