From how to change a tire to proper social etiquette, the new Modern Life Skills program covers a myriad of things the boys need to know, things that are not always taught in a regular school curriculum.
Every other Thursday, the boys are introduced to a variety of wellness topics, methods for college/career readiness, leadership training, and life skills. Critical skills such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making are emphasized.
Modern Life Skills was the brainchild of Dean of Student Wellness Dr. Lisa Garner P’24 and perfectly aligns with one of Christ School’s strategic imperatives – Developing the Whole Boy.
Thank you to our special guests on Thursday – Leigh Ruhl, who is Director of the Asheville Chapter of the National League of Junior Cotillions and Eric Melniczek, a speaker, author, coach, consultant, and career management professional based out of High Point, N.C.
Ms. Ruhl helped familiarize the eighth graders with a little bit of everything, etiquette-wise, while Mr. Melniczek dispensed career exploration advice and assisted the seniors in properly setting up a LinkedIn page.
