Liam Pulsifer '15 & Conrad Ma '15
Named Morehead-Cain Semifinalists
Christ School Greenies Liam Pulsifer '15 and Conrad Ma '15 have been selected as semifinalists for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship. The Morehead-Cain is one of the most prestigious scholarships a student can earn in the United States. Based solely on merit, students awarded the Morehead-Cain receive a full four-year scholarship to UNC-Chapel Hill as well as additional academic, leadership, and service opportunities around the world.
All semifinalists were interviewed by the Morehead-Cain Central Selection Committee on December 11. The final selection weekend will span February 29 - March 3, 2015. Students who are selected as finalists will be able to visit UNC-Chapel Hill's campus, attend classes, and engage with alumni and current Morehead-Cain Scholars.
At Christ School, Liam Pulsifer is the Honor Council Chair, an AP Scholar with Distinction, a High Honors Scholar, and Day Student Prefect. He is also an athlete and musician - named MVP of the tennis team and a member of the North Carolina All State Band. He shares his musical talent with the service learning group Notes from the Soul, a Christ School student-outreach program. Liam is the first student Chief Editor of the school's literary magazine, The Struan, and was awarded the Vth Form Book Prize for maintaining the highest GPA among all students in 11th grade. Liam is also a Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program, earning this designation by scoring in the top 1% of the 1.4 million students nationwide who took the 2013 PSAT.
"Liam possesses that rare blend of character, skill, curiosity, and determination - all prerequisites for someone destined to do great things at the university level and beyond," observed Kirk Blackard.
Conrad Ma is one of Christ School's international students, a Dorm Prefect, and the Servant Leadership Chair. Academically, he is a member of the school's National Honor Society, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and recipient of the Harvard Book Club Award. In recognition of his achievements in scholarship, service, citizenship, spiritual growth and physical rigor, Conrad was named a Wetmore Scholar. Conrad has gained celebrity both on and off campus as a talented beatboxer, and he shares his music as Founder of the Hip Hop Club and fellow member of Notes from the Soul. An international phenomenon, he has recently performed with the Asheville Symphony and TEDx, and he has worked with New York City Symphony conductor and composer Mr. David Eaton.
Conrad Ma is an outstanding student, an exemplary leader and a unique young man. In my 25 years in the field of education, I have never met a more energetic, motivated and remarkable student. Conrad is hard working, creative and personable," History Instructor Mrs. Mahoney reflected. "He is an asset to any community that he joins."
Congratulations, Greenies!
