Lessons & Carols Candlelight Service

December 7: The 92nd Annual Lessons & Carols Candlelight Service in St. Joseph's Chapel, 6 p.m.
(Space is limited; only students, faculty, and invited guests may attend).
A St. Joseph's Chapel tradition that has continued unbroken for 92 years surely takes on a sacred quality. In fact, Lessons & Carols accounts for most of Christ School's 125-year history. Called by various names over the years, this Candlelight Service has always signaled the arrival of Christmas. Every year, the community puts aside the business of "life as usual" to witness the great mystery of God in Christ, to stand in awe and wonder in this Chapel, to hear the story of our salvation as recounted in the Holy Scripture, and to sing – like all generations who have come before – carols of the season. Every service ends in hushed tones with the singing of "Silent Night," the sanctuary illuminated by candlelight, reminding all who are present that there is hope even in the darkness. The sacred tradition began in 1933, and that sacred tradition has made a deep impression on every student who has taken part.
