Xander Barber '23 won the Asheville Open Tennis Championships singles title on Sunday.

Rising junior Xander Barber ’23 remains undefeated in his singles career at Christ School and the Asheville resident added a big hometown feather to his cap over the weekend.

Xander was smooth and precise with his shotmaking over four days on the Aston Park Tennis Center’s clay courts. He defeated top seed Felipe Victoria in straight sets, 6-3-6-0, to win the Asheville Open Tennis Championships title on Sunday morning.

Xander only dropped eight games in his four matches. The field for the Asheville Open was touted to be among its best ever since the U.S. Tennis Association had designated the event as a Level 2 tournament (allowing players to earn more points for national rankings).

Xander’s record in singles for the Greenies was 8-0 this spring and he was named the Carolinas Athletic Association Player of the Year and Morgan/McCullough Most Valuable Player (school MVP) for the second time.
