Winter Sports Award Winners Announced


Basketball

The Christ School Athletic Department has announced its award winners for the 2020-21 Winter Sports Season, as determined by each team’s coaching staff.

BASKETBALL

Most Valuable Player: Donavon Fitzgerald ’22 – In his first season as a Greenie, Donavon averaged team-highs in scoring (14.6 points per game) and rebounds (5.4 per game) at point guard. He was named to the All-Carolinas Athletic Association team.

Most Improved Player: Drew Redmond ’21 – Drew led Christ School in assists (4.2 per game) and steals (3.0 per game). He received All-Carolinas Athletic Association recognition as a guard. In 42 games at the varsity level, Drew finished with these career totals: 419 points, 190 assists, 104 rebounds, and 101 steals.

SWIMMING

Most Valuable Swimmer: Frank Howden ’22 – Frank is the first ever three-time winner of this award. He placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.81) and 200-yard individual medley (1:57.08) at the NCISAA Division I state meet. In addition, Frank swam a leg on Christ School’s fifth-place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.52) and ninth-place medley relay (1:47.91). He was the Carolinas Athletic Association runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.25) and third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.56).

Most Improved Swimmer: Sam Jarrett ’22 – Sam won the Carolinas Athletic Association championship in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.07) and was the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.67). He went on to finish ninth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.26) and 10th in the 100-yard butterfly (55.54) at the NCISAA Division I state meet. Sam was also part of the Greenies’ fifth-place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.52) and ninth-place medley relay (1:47.91).
