Perfectly executed set pieces, breakaways, and even a buzzer beater.

Varsity soccer pulled out all the scoring stops Monday and three different goalkeepers combined to shut out the visiting Asheville Trailblazers, 6-0.

Rain pelted both teams for much of the season-opening game. Christ School (1-0-0) dominated possession en route to a 5-0 halftime lead.

Ethan Rose ‘24 flicked a ball in the penalty area over to Truett Compton ‘25, who finished it off for the first goal in the 11th minute. Just two minutes later, Ethan scored off an assist from Truett. Reeves Cates ‘24 put away a nice header in the 16th minute with the assist coming from Carter Compton ‘24, who scored in the 20th minute off an assist from Jaron Richardson ‘23.

Max Hartwig ‘23 placed a corner kick on the chest of Luka Rose ‘25 to make it 5-0 with eight minutes to go until halftime. Finally, Lucas Little ‘24 scored with just seconds remaining with the assist credited to Li Hong Chen ‘24.

Starter Ben Yang ‘24 (two saves), Basti Guder ‘23 (five), and Caleb McClellan ‘23 (four) were the goalkeepers responsible for Christ School’s clean sheet.

The Greenies won their season opener for the third time in four years. They are back home Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. matchup with A.C. Reynolds. The game will be streamed live on the Christ School Broadcast Network.
