Track Leads After Day 1 of State Meet

LEWISVILLE – Every inch and second feels consequential at a state meet.

Koen Booker ’27 can attest after bringing his A-game to the long jump on Friday’s first day of the NCISAA Division I Championship Meet.

Christ School leads the competition with 43 points – Metrolina Christian Academy is in second place (35) – thanks in no small part to Koen. He and Metrolina’s William McCormick matched one another for Friday’s best jump (21 feet, 5.5 inches), with Koen having the second-best jump (21-5) as a tiebreaker. The junior from Durham had scratched on three of his six attempts but did enough to become a first-time state champion.

Elsewhere in the meet, the 3,200-meter relay of Noah Clancy ’27, Dominic Rose ’28, Brody Webb ’27, and Dallas Reeves ’27) was a runner-up with a school-record time of 7 minutes, 46.47 seconds and Brooks Barbee ’27 came in second in the individual 3,200 (8:48.40), which was Friday’s last event. William Robinson ’26 placed third in the shot put (51-3).

The meet resumes this morning at 10 a.m. and will run through 4 p.m. on the campus of Forsyth Country Day School, which is located just outside of Winston-Salem.
