Sidney Gibbs '19 Makes Memorable Debut in German Football League

Sidney Gibbs ’19 made his professional debut for the German Football League’s Straubing Spiders on Saturday. And it was not an understated debut by any means.

The Christ School alumnus rushed for the tying touchdown (24 yards) and the winning TD (12) with seven seconds remaining in a 31-24 home win over the Ravensburg Razorbacks.

Sidney signed with Straubing in December.

He is the all-time leading rusher for Shaw University (3,326 yards) and scored 30 touchdowns in his college career. He was a four-time all-conference player in the CIAA. Sidney ranks fourth all-time in rushing at Christ School (2,270 yards) despite playing only just over a season due to injury. His junior year (2,029 yards) is the only 2,000-yard season, rushing-wise, in school history.

The next game for Straubing is Saturday versus the Hildesheim Invaders.
