Regular Season Winding Down for Varsity Soccer

Having already surpassed last year’s total for wins by two games, Christ School varsity soccer is now ready to hit the homestretch of its season.

The Greenies (9-3-0, 3-1-0) have four games left before the NCISAA state playoffs and two remaining in the Carolinas Athletic Association, all on the road. Christ School travels to Asheville School (6-4-0, 2-2-0) on Wednesday and Rabun Gap (12-2-0, 4-0-0) on Friday.

Since not all CAA opponents play twice, only one game – which is predetermined – counts towards the conference standings. Wednesday’s game will not count, while Friday’s does. At the end of the regular season, the top-two teams in the CAA then play a third time for the league championship.

Carson Campbell ’21 (11 goals, four assists) has stepped up as the scoring leader for the Greenies, followed by Adam Keever ’20 (eight goals, five assists), and Connor Hall ’20 (five goals, four assists). Michael Mahoney ’20 has been solid in his first year as starting goalkeeper, with the help of defenders such as Fox Smith ‘21, Justus Borchardt ‘21, Tyler Bell ‘21, Aaron Chen ’20, Jackson Knoll ‘23, and Robert Freeman ‘22.

The Greenies held their Senior Day on Sept. 24 to recognize Aaron, Adam, Connor, Michael, Kevin Masson ’20, and Max Redic ’20.

Wednesday’s varsity game starts at 4:30 p.m. It will be played on a grass field instead of the turf inside Asheville School’s McNaughton Stadium. Updates will be posted to Twitter (@greeniesports).
