Intermittent rain made it difficult for both offenses Saturday, between slick footballs and a slippery playing surface.
Christ School found all the grip and traction it needed. And Ryan Taylor ’27 and the defense were not budging.
Fayssoux Field’s scoreboard read: Greenies 47, North Cross (Va.) 7. But for all intents and purposes, Varsity Football continued its best start to a season since 2017 with a shutout. North Cross got on the board with 26.6 seconds to go, long after Ryan and other starters had played their final down of a game with a running clock for Christ School (4-0).
“We’re feeling good. We’re happy with where we’re at, but we’re hungry, too,” said the senior captain and outside linebacker/defensive back from Cleveland.
“We’ve been working on this the whole offseason, working on it all of last season. We brought in the right guys, the pieces we needed to come together. And today we just flied around and executed.”
Did they ever.
The visiting Raiders (1-2) from Roanoke, Va., went three-and-out on their first possession and gave away the football twice in the second half. Linkin Stevens ‘28 recovered a fumble on the opening series of the third quarter and Jonas Kalverda ’28 had a 37-yard pick six interception.
While all of this was happening, a Greenies offense which is averaging 46.75 points a game was doing everything it needed.
Mak Anderson ‘28 dumped off a short pass to Harrison Brien ‘28 along the Christ School sideline, then watched him slice and dice his way for 48 yards at the 4:25 mark of the first quarter. That touchdown through the air by Mak was followed up by three more to Dre Smith ’27 (24 and 69 yards) and Jason Dorel Onana ‘29 (45 yards) and a 17-yard keeper. Sebastian Newell ‘28 and Koen Booker ‘27 connected for the final touchdown of the afternoon, a 36-yarder.
Wes McAven ‘27, Owen Brady ‘28, and James Ballantyne ‘30 handed extra-point duties Saturday.
Christ School led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter and 26-0 at halftime.
The Greenies return home next Friday for a 7 p.m. game against Charlotte Latin (2-2).
