“Allen Mebane ’48 represents so many ideals and values of Christ School – integrity, commitment, hard work, and achievement,” read a decree recognizing Allen as the school’s first Trustee Emeritus in 1997.
Allen gave endlessly to Christ School through his philanthropy, time, and vision.
He served nearly three decades on the Board of Trustees while pursuing global entrepreneurship and was responsible for the school’s first capital campaign in 1972. Mebane Field House, affectionately known as “The Greenie Dome,” was dedicated in 1987. A lead gift through the Mebane Foundation made the Mebane Science Center possible in 2011.
Additionally, the Mebane Foundation has awarded numerous scholarships to students here over the years. Today, the foundation carries on Allen’s commendable work as a “Catalyst for Innovation and Excellence in Education,” with his wife and Christ School Board of Trustees member, Marianne W’48, serving as Chairperson of the Mebane Foundation Board of Directors.
Everyone at Christ School is again indebted to the tremendous generosity of the Mebane Foundation, which has provided new roofs for the Cuningham House and South Carolina House dorms this summer, as well as a new bus to transport Greenies, starting with the 2026-27 academic year.
Thank you, Mebane Foundation!
