Returning to the Hive!
Congratulations to Mason Plumlee '09, who will play his 13th season of NBA basketball a couple hours away with the Charlotte Hornets.
ESPN reported that the two sides agreed to a one-year, $3.6 million contract Monday night.
Mason was previously with the Hornets from 2021 to 2023. Clearly, there was a mutual fondness for their time together. Mason is a 6-foot-10 forward/center whose career averages are 4.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He played last season for the Phoenix Suns.
Mason was back on campus last week for his basketball camp and talked about his time at Christ School and longevity in the pros. Thirteen seasons in the NBA is far and away a record for any Western North Carolina high school graduate. Of course, Mason and his brothers, Miles '08 and Marshall '11, forever changed the trajectory of Christ School basketball when they enrolled as Greenies 19 years ago.
Along with a state championship streak from 2007 to 2011, Mason and Marshall were McDonald's All-Americans. All three brothers went on to play collegiately at Duke University and made it to the NBA.
