Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed of an America where people would “not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

His dream lives on in the Christ School community and the world beyond.

As is tradition, classes were put on hold Monday for a full-day celebration of Dr. King through workshops, service trips, and other learning opportunities.

Snow interfered with the school’s plans for MLK Day (Jan. 17), but there was never any thought given to cancelling the school-wide program with a theme of “Lift Every Voice” for 2022. Father John Roberts said Monday that Dr. King was “a symbol for hope, justice, and a better tomorrow.”

“I am so thankful to have this time as a community on such a significant day," Father Roberts said.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator and Science instructor Jeremy Jacobs was the guest speaker in Chapel, sharing with the boys the importance of empathy.

“The need for empathy in this day and age and among your generation is as real as it has ever been,” Mr. Jacobs said.

“Empathy is no longer just feeling with someone but feeling with someone and doing something about it. Let us carry out the dream that (MLK) set out for us and love one another like there is no tomorrow. Don’t let what we are talking about fall on deaf ears. History is watching and you are writing the next chapter.”

Along with a time for reflection Monday, the boys will talk about MLK Day on Wednesday during Advisee Lunch.
