Greenies Shut Out Blues to Sweep Regular-Season Series

Jaron Richardson '23 and Truett Compton '25 were the goal scorers for Christ School varsity soccer Tuesday at Asheville School.

Conventional wisdom says to sit on the ball and milk the clock.

Christ School varsity soccer was following the plan Tuesday night, ahead 1-0 at Asheville School with a man-up advantage for the final 5 minutes.

Truett Compton ’25 took a calculated risk, and boy, was it worth it.

The sophomore from Fairview, N.C., was preparing a free kick when he noticed there was no wall of defenders obstructing a shot. Truett’s bending kick – one that was only several feet away from being a proper corner kick – curved at just the right moment.

The Greenies (8-8, 4-2) had all the insurance they needed with 58.7 seconds to go to cement a 2-0 Carolinas Athletic Association road win.

As a result, Christ School swept its regular-season series with Asheville School for the second consecutive year, putting a damper on the Blues’ Spirit Week.

Senior Jaron Richardson ’23 was responsible for the first goal. The Blues (4-9-2, 1-6) were attempting to clear the ball at the 57:45 mark of a scoreless game when Jaron caught a ball on the bounce and ripped it through.

Tuesday was the fourth shutout in five games for the Christ School defense and goalie Ben Yang ’24.

The Greenies travel to High Point Wesleyan Christian Academy on Friday. The game times are 5 p.m. for the JV, followed by the Varsity.
