Greenies Pause to Reflect on MLK Day

“We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”

- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

One of the many quotable gems from Dr. King is essential to Christ School’s DNA and our mission to produce educated men of good character, prepared for both scholastic achievement in college and productive citizenship in adult society.

Chaplain Peter Hartwig was invited to give the closing prayer at this afternoon’s peace march and rally in downtown Asheville, organized each year by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Asheville & Buncombe County. Mr. Hartwig was joined in Pack Square by two of our Prefects, Michael Pollick ’26 (South Carolina House) and Declan Szostczuk ’26 (Gardner House).

Earlier this morning, the students and faculty viewed the CNN special, “The Simril(l)s: A Family in Black and White,” starring English instructor Dr. Spenser Simrill and his family. Dr. Simrill and his cousin, Michael Simril, fielded questions about the unique dynamics within their family during a MLK Day service in St. Joseph’s Chapel.
