Christ School golfers worked tirelessly in the preseason and have seen it pay off with three consecutive wins. Time will tell if the Greenies can achieve the goal of playing their best when it matters most.

“We’ve got some guys that have shown they are able to step up and play well,” head coach Eric Thorp ‘01 said.

“They’re working hard and showing improvement. There’s great chemistry, this is a group that enjoys being around each other. We’ve talked a lot about working towards May 3 (the NCISAA state tournament qualifier in High Point, N.C.). It’s great to play well now, but we’re looking at trying to peak then.”

Charles Howden ‘22 was the low individual for Christ School on Tuesday, shooting 80 in a head-to-head win over Rabun Gap at the Sky Valley (Ga.) Country Club. UNC Greensboro recruit Andrew Graham ’21 and Jamal Hutchinson ‘23 have led the team in other matches this season.

Christ School plays its next Carolinas Athletic Association match Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Kenmure Country Club. The Greenies were team state runners-up as recently as 2018 and 2019. The 2020 season for the NCISAA was cancelled by COVID-19.

“As we’ve seen in the past, 4-A is the most competitive classification in the state,” Coach Thorp said. “We’re going to get a chance to play some of those teams head-to-head and get an idea for where we stand, but it’s important that we keep preparing on own.”
