Christ School varsity football took away everything it could from Saturday’s restrained 49-16 win over the visiting Carolina Mavericks (S.C.).
Camden-Long White ’29 caught a short opening kickoff on the fly, shrugged off a tackler, and took it 77 yards to the north end zone in front of Mebane Field House. The sophomore from Brevard, N.C., would be one of seven different Greenies to score a touchdown, along with Raphael Marchand ’28, Matthew Delpeche ’29, Alex Rodriguez ’28, Isaiah Gray ’27, Declan White ’30, and Cooper Barnhart ’29.
Freshman James Ballantyne ’30, the oldest son of Science instructor Jimmy Ballantyne P’30, made all seven of his extra-point attempts and Christ School (1-0) only punted once.
The Greenies ran the ball liberally with backup players after leading 28-0 at the conclusion of the first quarter and 42-0 at halftime. Three different quarterbacks took snaps – starter Makorean Anderson ’28, Sebastian Newell ’28, and Philipp Seitz ’28. Forty-nine points matches the most scored by the team in Clint Alexander's two years as head coach.
Christ School travels to East Rutherford (0-1) Friday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The Cavaliers lost to Asheville High School, 53-22, in their season opener.
