awards

The school year’s first Student and Residential Life Awards were presented Friday in Assembly.

Nominations for the monthly awards are submitted anonymously by the Christ School faculty and their comments are below in quotations.

STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

Noah Hunt ‘24

“This student is one of the most humble and kindest students. His confidence and self-awareness exude a quiet strength to be the motivated leader he is. He leads important conversations on culture and community. A leader in the classroom and his role as a Prefect in Noland (House).”

Parker Abernethy ‘27

“This student has a constant positive attitude. Goes out of his way to make friends and notices if anyone is struggling in that regard and reaches out to make sure everyone is welcome. His attitude and approach to the football team has been welcoming. Always does the right thing even when he thinks no one is watching.”

JOB PROCTOR OF THE MONTH

Byron Park ‘24

“This student really steps up to the plate as Job Proctor. Every day, he directs his Greenie crew wherever needed to make the Upper Science Wing look its best.”

SENIOR LEADER OF THE MONTH

Patrick Wang ‘24

“This guy has been an A-plus senior leader so far, which is exactly what his dorm parents expected. He has even run his own dorm meetings when he knows there are concerns in the dorm. He takes a lot of pride in his space and deserves all the praise that we can give him.”

ROOMMATES OF THE MONTH

Wilfred Freund ‘26 and Jameson Dow ‘26

“These two guys are both returning students. They keep a very clean room, get along well, and help each other out during study hall. They are present and great dorm members in South Carolina House.”

Friday’s awards were announced by Dean of Students Drew Hyche ’94, Assistant Dean of Student Wesley Shelmire, and Special Assistant to the Head of School and Director of Campus Life Benjie Colberg. Friday was a significant date as it marked exactly one month’s time since the start of the classes for the 2023-24 academic year.
