First Global Studies Cohort Gives Capstone Presentations

Developing the Whole Boy for the world that awaits him.

In jest, we talk about life beyond the Shell Station at the far end of Christ School Road. The Global Studies Program has much greater ambitions, ones that aren’t restricted by geographic borders or language barriers.

Thursday night’s capstone presentations, given in the Stolz Dining Hall’s Bradshaw Room, were a high-water mark for a developing Program of Distinction.

Five seniors from the Class of 2026 make up the first cohort to complete the Global Studies Program, which intersperses a mix of academic and extra-curricular activities. The goal is to equip boys with the confidence, knowledge, and skills to positively contribute on a worldwide stage.

Thursday’s presentations were based off independent research projects and given in this order:

  • Cole Lewis ’26 – The Rural-Urban Divide in Thai Health Care.
  • Costa Barlas ’26 – The Water Crisis in the Sahel. Costa was unable to attend Thursday, with his project introduced by History instructor Mark Thompson P’24, P’26, who is the faculty advisor for Global Studies.
  • Evan Reich ’26 – Catholicism in the Spanish Colonies: An Ambivalent Institution and its Legacy.
  • Jackson Cancel ’26 – The Contemporary Rise of Global Right-Wing Populism.
  • Spencer Thompson ’26 – Can Art End War?
