Early Sports are in full swing at Christ School, as usual a reminder that summer is winding down and a new year of Greenie athletics is ready to begin.

Football and soccer players returned Friday, followed by cross country runners on Tuesday. Athletes were able to go through the registration process, move into their dorms if they are boarding students, and get acclimated to campus again.

The fall sports season begins for all three teams later this month – soccer is first up with JV and varsity home games against Charlotte Providence Day (Aug. 22) and Charlotte Christian (Aug. 23). Football is also home for its Aug. 30 opener against University Christian out of Jacksonville, Fla. Cross country’s first meet is the Buncombe County Championship on Sept. 4 at Fletcher Park.

Across the board, last year will be a hard act to follow for all Greenie athletes.

Christ School extended state-championship streaks in lacrosse (three years) and track & field (two years), and was NCISAA runner-ups in basketball, football, and golf. Baseball, basketball, golf, and track won Carolinas Athletic Association championships.

The Class of 2020 clearly has promise. There are already a half-dozen Christ School seniors who have committed to play college sports – Cameron Akers ’20 (College of Charleston golf), Will Buchanan ’20 (Liberty University football), Davis Lindsey ’20 (Loyola University Maryland lacrosse), Navy Shuler ’20 (Appalachian State football), Jack Sutton ’20 (Walters State Community College baseball), and Aydan White ’20 (N.C. State University football).

Christ School’s 2019-20 school year begins Monday with two days of orientation. August 21 is the first day of classes.
