Cross Country Wins at WNC Sports Awards

ASHEVILLE - Coach Ashley and the boys didn’t get dressed up for nothing Sunday night at the Omni Grove Park Inn.

Christ School cross country was named the Blue Ridge Division of EmergeOrtho Division II Male Team Sport winner at the 64th annual Western North Carolina Sports Awards.

The Greenies had the credentials and then some. They were the swiftest team in state history, private or public schools, enroute to winning their third NCISAA 4-A championship since 2021 in October. The team would keep running through postseason competition, going on to win the Nike Cross Regionals Southeast meet and place seventh at the Nike Cross Nationals meet.

All five of Christ School’s scoring runners broke 16 minutes for 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) in their biggest wins and junior Brooks Barbee ’27 is only the second individual in school history to crack 15 minutes (14:59.37). He was named the Asheville Citizen Times All-WNC Runner of the Year for the 2025 season. Dallas Reeves ’27, Reynolds Young ’27, Noah Clancy ’26, and Jack Dennehy ’27 also made the NCISAA all-state team.

Randy Ashley was named North Carolina’s Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association following his 10th season.

The team's discipline and hard work extended to the classroom with a cumulative grade-point average that was above 4.0. Noah was the only senior in Christ School's top-seven and has signed with Iona University.

The Mountain Amateur Athletic Club has presented the WNC Sports Awards since 1959.
