Preferential treatment goes to the elder statesman, it’s only fair.
For the better part of Wednesday’s Senior Night race, Christ School’s top runners clumped together and raced their home course one final time as a pack.
Only one problem as the eight seniors approached the finish line at the same tempo – who gets the win? With smiles on their faces and proper deference, the rest of the Greenies allowed fifth-year senior Dallas Reeves ’27 to cross in 16 minutes, 44.60 seconds.
Dallas was an eighth grader for Christ School’s second-ever state cross country championship team in 2022 – a squad that included his older brother Dawson ’24 – and a key piece of last year’s NCISAA 4-A title as well. The Reeves family is from Canton, N.C.
Team-wise, the Greenies have no close competition for a third ring in a little over two weeks and, again, showed why on Wednesday with their second perfect score (15 points) in as many meets this season involving Carolinas Athletic Association teams. Along with Dallas, Jack Dennehy ’27 (second place, 16:45.00), Carl Baird ’27 (third, 16:45.00), Ben Graham ’27 (fourth, 16:45.30), Reynolds Young ’27 (fifth, 16:45.50), Timmy McDowell ’27 (sixth, 16:45.50), Brody Webb ’27 (seventh, 16:45.50), and Brooks Barbee ’27 (eighth, 16:45.80) were recognized prior to the race with their families.
The next meet for Christ School is the October 17 Virginia Showcase in Mechanicsville, Va.
