Cross Country Wins Fourth Straight CAA Championship in Historic Fashion

Carl Baird '27.

Goals beyond the Carolinas Athletic Association compel this Christ School cross country team.

The duality could be seen Wednesday afternoon – the Greenies gave proper respect to hosting the CAA Championship Meet but also conserved some energy in winning their fourth straight title with a perfect score (15 points).

Individual winner Carl Baird ’27 flew through his home course in 16 minutes, 23.80 seconds, the first domino in allowing Christ School to sweep all eight positions on the all-conference team – which had never been done before by any CAA program.

Context is important and Christ School’s top runners do morning and afternoon runs, several days in a typical week, including Wednesday.

That made the overall performance that more impressive by Carl and the rest of the team’s top-10 finishers – Jack Dennehy ’27 (second place, 16:45.90), Dallas Reeves ’27 (third, 16:46.40), Reynolds Young '27 (fourth, 16:47.00), Timmy McDowell ’27 (fifth, 16:47.20), Brooks Barbee ’27 (sixth, 16:47.60), Noah Clancy ’26 (seventh, 16:47.90), Brody Webb ’27 (eighth, 16:48.20), and Ben Graham ’27 (ninth, 16:48.70).

Lansing Lewis '26 (19th place, 18:49.10), one of the team's two seniors, had his best race as a Greenie.

Christ School remains undefeated this season, with Asheville School (81 points) coming in a distant second place Wednesday, followed by Carolina Day (87), Asheville Christian Academy (93), and Rabun Gap (94). The Greenies should find out sometime Thursday what their position is in the latest COROS/MileSplit national rankings – they were No. 8 in September's last-published list.
