Cross Country, Soccer are Big Winners on Athletic Awards Night

Historic state championship seasons by cross country and soccer will resonate for many years to come.

Leaders of those teams were among the big winners again at Thursday’s Athletic Awards Night in Mebane Field House.

Brooks Barbee ’27 and Felix Huebner ’26 got called to the stage as respective MVPs for their teams – Felix shared soccer’s with Clayton Butler ’26 – and also received one of the five major awards.

In all, Christ School teams have won six Carolinas Athletic Association championships since August and there are 14 seniors who plan to continue their careers in college. Track and field’s participation in this week’s NCISAA Division I state meet will be the final athletic event of the year.

Thursday evening’s tone was celebratory but bittersweet as well. Acting Athletic Director Duncan Parham P’13, who is retiring after 23 years, was honored at the end of the night. He received a standing ovation following remarks from Head of School Dr. Sean Jenkins P’29.
