Christ School cross country received two No. 1 national rankings Thursday from authoritative sources in the sport – MileSplit and RunnerSpace.
This marks the first time any Christ School team has ascended to a top national ranking. The Greenies have only raced once this season, but grading on potential with this group is a safe bet.
They won the Eye Opener meet on September 4 in Spartanburg, S.C., with an average time of 15 minutes, 29 seconds for their top-five runners, who were Brooks Barbee ’27 (15:02.30), Jack Dennehy ’27 (15:06.60), Reynolds Young ’27 (15:27.84), Ben Graham ’27 (15:37.59), and Timmy McDowell ’27 (16:05.79).
Brooks (University of Oregon) and Brody Webb ’27 (UNC Charlotte) have already committed to run at the next level.
“My team consists of eight seniors that all want to compete as runners in college,” Coach Randy Ashley told RunnerSpace.
“The team came together last year to motivate one another, and all had breakthrough track seasons. With consistent training and an eye towards taking care of the little things, we have an opportunity to be a really strong, national-caliber team.”
