Costa Barlas '26 Caps Off Comeback Win at Cannon School

CONCORD – Big moments tend to find Costa Barlas ’26 in his soccer career at Christ School. Or is it the other way around?

Either way, high drama and the senior midfielder from Asheville collided again Tuesday night with just 12.5 seconds to go in regulation. Positioned at the top-right corner of the 18-yard box, Costa settled the ball and went far post for his fourth and easily biggest goal of this young season.

The Greenies scored three unanswered goals in the final 44 minutes of a 3-2 comeback win at Cannon School.

Costa ran to the sideline, peeling off his shirt in celebration, where he was mobbed by teammates. Along with these heroics, he had the only goal in last year’s 1-0 win over four-time state champion Rabun Gap (Ga.) and managed a hat trick in last week's season opener (8-0 at East Henderson on Aug. 11).

Max Collyer ‘27 and Oliver King ‘28 accounted for Tuesday’s first two goals off assists from Davis Campbell ‘28 and Wyatt Campbell ‘27.

Christ School improves to 2-1 ahead of Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. home game with Ambassador Christian, which has the same record.
