It’s been a good summer. Now it’s time for a great school year.
More than 300 boys from 14 different states and nine countries make up the student body for Christ School's 127th academic year with the largest senior class in school history (72 Greenies) registering Friday, along with returning day students and international students.
Opening Weekend includes some of our most revered traditions. Saturday night's Field Games is the first event of Dorm Wars, a year-round competition for bragging rights and points between the six houses (Cuningham, Gardner, Harris, Noland, South Carolina, and Young). Sunday morning's form trips allow the boys to get to know one another or reacquaint with classmates by doing something fun, and the evening is capped off by our centerpiece event of the weekend – Convocation.
Christ School's traditional opening ceremony is one of only two times per year when everyone is allowed to walk on Yard A, the site of the original school grounds. The faculty procession out the front doors of Wetmore Hall is led by a bagpipe player. Dressed in coat and tie, the boys will hear remarks from Dr. Jenkins P'29 and our new Head Prefect, followed by an ice cream social for all new students at the Jenkins family residence (Boxwood House).
