Baseball Clobbers Cannon School in 2026 Season Opener

CONCORD – Ending a game early on a night like Monday puts the “mercy” in the mercy rule.

Varsity baseball made a chilly, but successful trip to Cannon School for its 2026 season opener.

Henry Tutera ‘28 homered and drove in five runs from the cleanup spot. The sophomore only lacked a single to hit for the cycle. Starting pitcher Patrick Robichaud ‘27 and his relief, Alex Cockin ‘27, gave up only two hits in a 14-0 shutout that went five innings.

The Greenies (1-0) pushed across six runs in both the third and fourth innings, then two more in the fifth. Temperatures across the state dipped into the 20s and 30s for the first afternoon of games in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association.

Patrick, Garin Gosnell ‘28, and Nehemiah Smith ‘27 had two hits each Monday. Nehemiah and leadoff Wells Alderman ‘26 drove in two RBIs.

The next game for Christ School is Friday at home against Charlotte Providence Day. A JV/varsity doubleheader begins at 4 p.m.
