Kobi Selby '19 to Share Poetry at Asheville MLK Service

The Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Asheville and Buncombe County was a little hesitant to allow a youth to speak at its 2018 candlelight service.

Kobi Selby '19 not only calmed any fears, he earned a repeat invitation.

The Christ School senior will share two of his original poems during Monday's 6 p.m. service at downtown Asheville's Central Methodist Church. Greenies have also volunteered to be ushers on an evening meant to honor area citizens and organizations that have dedicated themselves to the cause of social justice.

"I'm just glad to be part of something that is so special and so important," Kobi said. "To be in that space and in that moment, it's something I'll make sure to cherish."

Kobi's appearance is one of several MLK-themed events for Christ School.

A group of boys is accompanying Coordinator of Student Outreach Travis Harris for a weekend trip to The King Center in Atlanta. Monday will be a chance for a select number of Greenies to attend the MLK march through downtown Asheville.
