Kevin Snyder '19 to represent USA in International Meet

Kevin Snyder to Represent USA in International Meet

For the past 12 years, the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation has sent track and field athletes to represent the United States in places like Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas. The NSAF annually selects 14 boys and 14 girls for the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational, an all-expenses-paid opportunity to showcase American talent on the international stage.

This May, the team will head to Freeport, Bahamas, with a Christ School student-athlete on its roster. Kevin Snyder '19 is a three-time NCISAA 3-A state champion, four-time school record-holder, and a bronze medalist in the long and triple jump at the New Balance Indoor National meet.

When Snyder received the invitation last week, to say he was thrilled, was an understatement. "Since I was little, it has always been a dream of mine to represent my country as a track and field athlete," Kevin said. "I am so grateful for this opportunity and to the NSAF for considering me. I want to go there and represent my school, and my country to the best of my ability."

Even with all of Snyder's success, he realizes this opportunity will push him.

"There will athletes from all over the world," Snyder said. "To have the chance to compete against some of the top competitors on this stage is incredible." However, "this opportunity is not one that would have come about without Head Coach Randy Ashley and Coach Demeseh Cobb. They have helped me since I was a kid and pushed me to work harder. I am so grateful for their help."

Before he heads to the Bahamas to represent the United States, Synder said that the Greenies have some unfinished business to attend to. "Last year, we finished a couple points from winning the state championship," Kevin said. "This year, everyone on the team has trained hard to win the whole thing. While I have my own goals to reach 51 feet and 25 feet in the triple and long Jump, most importantly, I want our team to win a state championship."

The Greenies will compete in the NCISAA 3-A state-championship meet at Ravenscroft on May 18 and 19. For more Christ School Track and Field information click here, and follow the team on Twitter here.
