Greenies See the World During Spring Break

Students take trips to Europe, the Galapagos Islands, and Japan

Spring Break is over, but the memories remain. Especially for three groups from Christ School which traveled to Europe, the Galapagos Islands, and Japan during their time off from classes.

Faculty members Marcel and Beth Duhaime oversaw the Galapagos trip from March 3-10.

"The Galapagos trip was an overwhelming success!," Marcel Duhaime said. "Not only were we able to get up close and personal with many, many creatures found nowhere else in the world, but we also learned a great deal about the fight now underway to save their habitats from development and the effects of climate change. Students also got to see firsthand how people live in a world very different from our own and gain an appreciation for what they have."

A service component was built into the Galapagos trip as well. The boys eradicated invasive species and planted native ones. They also performed shoreline clean-ups.

Greenies saw four different countries during the European Rail Adventure trip from March 2-12. The trip began in Paris where the boys got an up-close look at the Eiffel Tower, The Army Museum, Arc de Triomphe, and Sacre-Couer. They even ran into Hollywood actor Don Cheadle while exploring The Louvre, which is the world's largest art museum.

"The boys held good spirits throughout, and ignited a passion for visiting Europe again, with more time to explore off the beaten track and the learn the language of the land," said English teacher Joe Dalton, who supervised the trip along with Ross Weathersbee.

Finally, the group that went to Japan was there from March 4-13 under the watch of Jennifer MacDonald and Shao Ting Chung. Greenies toured famous landmarks in Tokyo, viewed shrines in the city of Kyoto, and, of course, filled their stomachs with lots of local cuisine.

The next student trips being offered by Christ School are a World War I-themed expedition to France and Belgium from May 25 to June 2. Closer to home, Greenies can see Utah, New Mexico and, Arizona, and Colorado from June 25 to July 7.
