Kristian Gaylord '15 awarded National Security Language Initiative for Youth Scholarship

Kristian Gaylord awarded NSLI-Y Scholarship

Will Study Abroad in Morocco Summer 2013

Christ School’s Kristian Gaylord '15 has been awarded one of approximately 625 National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) scholarships for 2013-2014. This merit-based scholarship program was created in 2006 funded by the U.S. Department of State.

NSLI-Y seeks to provide young Americans with language practice in an immersion environment, resulting in increased connections within the global community and lasting relationships with cultures around the world. This scholarship enables qualifying high school students to study languages that are not often taught in schools through overseas immersion programs, including Korean, Chinese, Hindi, Persian, Arabic, Turkish, and Russian.

This summer, Kristian will be studying Arabic abroad in Morocco for a summer immersion program through the NSLI-Y scholarship. The scholarship covers all traveling, tuition, accommodations, meals, and educational costs.

The NSLI-Y program aims to encourage and promote engagement in international cultures and a lasting interest in learning foreign languages. Kristian’s participation in this program will develop his diplomacy and relationships with foreign cultures. Kristian will serve as a citizen diplomat while developing the skills necessary to be a leader in the global community.

Congratulations, Kristian!
