Wait McCormick '26 Gives Year's First Senior Speech

“At Christ School, the people make the place,” Wait McCormick ’26 said Monday.

“And I can’t express how grateful I am as an only child to have so many brothers. I’ll never forget all the nights where I didn’t do any homework because I was busy making memories that will last a lifetime.”

Let it be said that Wait has never minded being a trailblazer in his time as a Greenie. He and Jack Greganti ‘27 are the first two Krieger Leadership Scholars and Wait signed up to give the first Senior Speech of a new year.

He joked that the latter was not his best idea – Wait went through five different drafts of the speech he gave in assembly.

Life is intended to be fun, appreciated, and a series of experiences in which you learn more about yourself, Wait said.

“Worrying about the future is completely fine, it’s normal,” Wait said.

“But don’t let it consume you. Like we say in chapel every day: ‘Life is short.’ Stop and smell the roses every once in a while and be present in yourself.”

Wait is from Winston-Salem and a Proctor in Gardner House. He plays varsity soccer and his future interest in pursuing sports media as a career has been furthered through Wait’s commentating work for the Christ School Broadcast Network.

The Senior Speech series was founded more than 20 years ago. Every senior is given the option to speak, but it is not required. The boys are encouraged to be sincere, thoughtful, and loving with their message.
