CHARLOTTE - Extra time is starting to become a comfort zone for Christ School varsity soccer.

For the fourth time this season, the Greenies were pushed beyond the standard 80 minutes of regulation on Tuesday. And for the third time, they came out victorious.

Wells Edwards ’25 collected a long pass from George Robbins ‘24, settled the ball, and shot from the top-left edge of the box for the golden goal in a 4-3 win at Charlotte Country Day.

Christ School improves to 4-5-1 ahead of Friday’s start to Carolinas Athletic Association play – a 6 p.m. home game with Asheville Christian Academy (2-2-1).

Clayton Butler ‘26 got the Greenies started with his team-best third goal of the season, coming with 14:59 to go in the first half. From there, seniors Jimmy Mennell ‘24, and Brendan Regan ’24 scored as well. Brendan’s goal gave Christ School its first lead of the night with 13:05 remaining, but the Buccaneers (3-4-1) were able to equalize less than five minutes later.

Assists on the first three goals were credited to Jimmy, Carter Compton ’24, and Luke Garner ’24.

Coach Guy Campbell ’00 said that unsung heroes of the game were Luke and Bradley Campbell ‘24, providing valuable minutes off the bench, and senior Reeves Cates ’24, who played the entire game at center midfield.
