Long-awaited homefield advantage was a lock. Christ School varsity lacrosse methodically turned everything else in its favor Wednesday night.
Palo Miles ’27 scored the first of his game-high five goals just 3 minutes and 11 seconds in, and the Greenies as a whole played their best game of the season in taking down Hough, 10-6.
A lot had transpired since the last time Christ School (2-7) hosted a varsity game – May 9, 2025 to be exact – including the program’s fourth state championship. Hough (8-3) begins every season with similar aspirations in the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s 4-A division and had already defeated other public-school titans this spring such as Charlotte Catholic and Weddington.
The Huskies fell behind 4-0 in Wednesday’s first quarter and never recovered.
Pike Preyer ‘27 and Thomas Flores ‘27 added two goals apiece to the winning cause and Parker Abernethy ‘28 scored once. Six goals was the second-fewest that Hough has scored all season, win or lose.
Prior to the game, Trent Rash ’27 announced his verbal commitment to Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, Fla., the world’s largest fully-accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace. Trent becomes the third current Christ School lacrosse player to commit, joining two other juniors – Henry Brathwaite ’27 (Mercer University) and Jameson Dow ’27 (Lehigh University).
The next game for the Greenies is Wednesday at home against Rabun Gap (Ga.).
