Varsity Basketball Wins First Nike EYBL Game

DAYTON, Ohio – Christ School coach Erasto Hatchett tells his players to rejoice in each other’s success.

Even the Long Green Line is only as strong as its weakest link.

The camaraderie and some superhuman shooting from Trevor Manhertz ’27 melded Monday into a historic breakthrough for the Greenies in a Martin Luther King Jr. Day matinee game.

Trevor tied a 34-year-old school record with eight 3-pointers and the junior’s 30 points were interspersed throughout Christ School’s first-ever Nike EYBL Scholastic win, 78-58, over Iowa United Prep.

“That’s the really cool piece about it,” Coach Hatchett said.

“(Trevor’s) teammates were excited for him and behind him. I think that goes a long way. We came up with a really strategic gameplan for today and were ready for the challenge. Honestly, a win like this gives you confidence moving forward, like when a shooter sees that first shot go in. Getting our first EYBL win gives us confidence moving forward for the rest of the league.”

Alumnus Andy Hatcher ’92 had the Christ School record for single-game 3s all to himself before Monday’s game, part of the Flyin’ to the Hoop Invitational.

Trevor was joined in double figures by Kingston Whitty ’26 (17 points), and Micah Goodlow ’28 (11). Hudson Hatch ’28 added nine points, followed by Jeremy Horton ’26 (five), Koen Booker ’26 (two), Skyler Ellis ’27 (two), and Dylan Twitty ’27 (two).

Christ School jumped out to a 17-10 lead after the first quarter and stayed relentless.

Players and coaches have been in Dayton since Saturday and won a non-Nike EYBL game on their day off from the invitational – Sunday’s 78-48 victory at Centerville, Ohio.

With Monday’s win, the Greenies improve their record to 17-4 overall, one month out from the February 20-22 Nike EYBL Scholastic Christ School Classic, which will bring three days of high-level basketball to campus. Christ School is 1-3 in Nike EYBL play this winter, hindered by the fact that the team’s reclassified seniors are not eligible to play.
