Varsity Baseball Prevails on Senior Night

Jackson Ogren ’22 has played enough games at Tripp Bourne ’66 Field to recognize a long, but harmless fly ball.

Still, he kept his emotions bottled up until the catch had been made in center field Thursday night.

The Greenies got the out and got the win on Senior Night, 4-3 over visiting Providence Academy (Tenn.).

Jackson pumped a fist as he returned to the dugout after picking up a save with an inning of scoreless relief. He was one of seven seniors recognized in a pregame ceremony along with Parker Davis ’22, Webb Hughes ’22, Mac Kimel ‘22, Sam White ’22, Jack Young ’22, and manager Wesley Thomas '22.

Brody Raleigh ’23 was 3-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Jack went 2-3.

Trailing 3-2, the Greenies (9-11) loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning, setting the stage for some heroics from the Rose brothers. First it was Luka ’25, and then Ethan ’24, who slapped RBI singles to put Christ School ahead for good.

Ethan was also the winning pitcher. The sophomore from Mills River, N.C., threw six innings with three earned runs, six hits, one walk, and five strikeouts.

Providence Academy had beaten Christ School, 10-0, when the two teams played March 22 in Johnson City, Tenn.

The Greenies were the Co-Carolinas Athletic Association champions this season and will now wait for Sunday to find out their seed for the NCISAA state playoffs. More photos from Thursday's game can be viewed at this link.
