Bourne Field can become a hitter’s dream and pitcher’s worst nightmare on a windy day. Christ School was the only baseball team testing the dimensions of its ballpark Tuesday.
Four different players homered – Will Ray ‘27, Cade Graning ‘26, Patrick Robichaud ‘27, and Jack Ray ‘26 in that order – and the Greenies bombed visiting Charlotte Country Day out of the first round of the NCISAA 4-A state playoffs, 10-2.
The Buccaneers (14-14) were able to stave off the mercy rule and match Christ School (17-9) in total hits with six. However, four of those hits from the Greenies sailed over the fence and a 10-1 lead after four innings was insurmountable.
Will (first inning) and Patrick (second) hit three-run homers, while Cade (second) and Jack (third) went yard with no one on base. An early double from Henry Tutera ’28 was the only other extra-base hit. Garin Gosnell ’28 scored three runs and Neo Smith ’27 had two.
Patrick was also the winning pitcher with 2.1 innings of work. He gave up one earned run, three hits, and no walks, to go with three strikeouts.
Christ School advances to play at Charlotte Christian (26-3) on Friday. The teams previously met on April 18 with the Knights winning on their home field, 8-5.
Seventeen wins by this Greenie team is the most for the program since 2019.
