Soccer Storms Back to Beat Cannon School

Cannon School win
Coach Guy Campbell '00 talks to his team after Saturday's 4-3 win over Cannon School.

Staring down a 3-1 halftime deficit, the afternoon looked like it was going one way for Christ School varsity soccer.

The Greenies cleaned up a few mistakes and kept pressing forward Saturday until they overtook Cannon School, 4-3.

Connor Hall ’20 completed the comeback with a penalty kick at the 57:20 mark and had two assists. Adam Keever ‘20 scored twice on four shots, Ethan Rose ’23 accounted for his first goal as a Greenie, and Michael Mahoney ’20 made four saves.

Carson Campbell ’21 was a thorn in the side of the Cannon defense all game long. The junior took a team-high six shots and gave out an assist. Carson was the Christ School player fouled in the 18-yard box by a Cannon defender, setting up Connor's penalty kick.

The Cougars (2-5-0) were ahead at the midway point with just four shots compared to 12 scoring opportunities for the Greenies (5-2-0). Coach Guy Campbell ’00 said the coaching staff was pleased with the way the team responded over the final 40 minutes. Cannon School had beaten defending Carolinas Athletic Association champion Rabun Gap (Ga.), 2-1, on Friday, a game played at Christ School.

The Greenies now get a week to prepare for their next game – Sept. 14 at Covenant Day.
