Wyatt Haddock ’27 presents a big target in the box, one that Christ School varsity soccer utilized Tuesday.
A picture-perfect corner kick from Vytis Rimkus ’29 and Wyatt’s resulting header at the 3:49 mark was the only goal the Greenies would need in their home opener. A 2-0 win over Asheville Christian Academy was the team’s 16th shutout in the past two years.
Even on a warm August afternoon, players hadn’t yet broken a sweat when Wyatt adjusted mid-air to make the score 1-0. And then at 21:48, Max Collyer ’27 was streaking down the right sideline when he took a pass from Steven Barlas ’29 and sent it over to Oliver King ’28. It's early, but the junior from Hendersonville, N.C., is Christ School's leader in goals (two) so far.
Neither team scored in the second half, which suited Max Rodriguez ’29 in earning the clean sheet. Tuesday was the first game of Carolinas Athletic Association play. Christ School was 8-0 in the conference a year ago.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Greenies who are home again Thursday against East Henderson, a makeup game from last week. The JV plays at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6:45.
